About

Lone Wolf Paintball’s Metamora outdoor field is located on Lapeer Road (M-24), just south of Dryden Road in Metamora, Michigan, behind the Casscadden Lounge.

A Living Piece of Paintball History

First opened in 1982 under the name Forbidden Zone, this field holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating paintball field in the state of Michigan. Acquired by Lone Wolf (H2 Enterprise, LLC) in 1990, the Metamora location has been a cornerstone of the sport for over four decades. The grounds span more than 40 acres of rugged, natural terrain that has challenged generations of players. Some visitors have been coming here for more than 20 years, while newcomers discover it for the first time each season — a testament to the field’s enduring appeal and the community that has grown around it.

Six Distinct Courses Across 40+ Acres

The Metamora property features six separate playing courses spread across its vast acreage, offering a remarkable variety of environments within a single location. The terrain is predominantly natural woodland, with rolling hills, dense tree lines, and open clearings that create dynamic and unpredictable gameplay. Unlike many modern fields that rely heavily on manufactured bunkers, this venue lets the landscape itself dictate the flow of battle. Players navigate through wooded areas, natural depressions, and carefully placed obstacles that blend seamlessly with the surroundings. The result is an immersive experience that feels less like a regulated sport and more like a genuine tactical encounter in the wild.

Game Scenarios for Every Style of Play

The staff rotates through a wide variety of game types to keep each visit fresh and engaging. Classic Capture the Flag remains a favorite, but the repertoire also includes the Mercenary Game — where a third team of neutral players harasses both sides — Center Flag battles, Attack and Defend scenarios, and the President’s Game, in which a small squad must escort a VIP to safety while the opposing team tries to eliminate them. Speedball is available on a smaller, more intense field for those who prefer fast-paced, close-quarters action. Medic games and continuous reinsertion modes allow for longer, more strategic sessions. The staff is open to player suggestions, so groups can often tailor the experience to their preferences.

Private Games with a Personal Touch

Private parties are available seven days a week from March through November, making this an excellent choice for birthdays, bachelor parties, sports teams, corporate outings, and team-building events. Each private booking includes dedicated referees who stay with the group from start to finish, organizing games and ensuring everyone plays safely and fairly. Before the first game, a staff member leads a thorough safety orientation covering equipment operation and field rules. The private package includes admission for up to ten players, two hours of exclusive playtime, all necessary rental equipment, and 200 paintballs per person. Additional players can be added on the day of play, and the group has the field to themselves — no outside players are mixed in.

Knowledgeable Staff and a Welcoming Atmosphere

The team at Lone Wolf Paintball Metamora is known for being friendly, knowledgeable, and deeply experienced in the sport. During open play sessions, referees actively divide players into balanced teams based on skill level, ensuring that newcomers aren’t overwhelmed and veterans still get a challenge. Rental equipment is always available for those who don’t have their own gear, and the staff takes the time to make sure everyone feels comfortable before stepping onto the field. After the game, private groups have access to a party area at no additional charge — a simple but appreciated touch that allows the group to wind down, share stories, and celebrate together.

What to Know Before You Go

Lone Wolf Paintball is a field-paint-only facility, meaning all paintballs must be purchased on-site — no outside paint is permitted. The field exclusively uses GI Sportz branded paintballs. CO2 refills are no longer offered, but HPA tanks are provided free of charge with rental packages and private parties; those bringing their own equipment can rent an HPA tank for a small fee. The outdoor season runs from April through November, with open play on Saturdays and Sundays. The gates open 30 minutes early for registration, and new players are accepted up to two hours before closing. Electronic waivers must be completed before playing, and minors need a parent or legal guardian to sign on their behalf.
