Last weekend, my partner and I surprised our two children (ages 10 and 13) with a spontaneous mid-afternoon outing at Laser Game Evolution in Sainte-Foy. Our goal was simple: break from routine and find an activity that would get us all moving, laughing, and on the same team. What we found was far more than a simple game—it turned into a memory we’ll keep talking about.
We arrived in the parking lot just a few minutes after we left home, the weather crisp and bright. Walking through the front door, we were greeted by vibrant neon lighting and the faint hum of players in action. The lobby felt alive with excitement—kids holding laser phasers, families chatting, staff guiding groups. We completed the registration, received our vests and phasers, and stepped into the staging area. The moment felt electric: the scent of clean gear, the glow of sleek equipment and the anticipation of what was to come.
We chose the “Family Blast” package which included two 20-minute laser tag rounds for four players, equipment rental for all ages (children and adults), and a 30-minute break with snacks in a reserved lounge area. The staff provided a clear safety briefing, helped our younger child into the gear, and explained how hits register and how scoring works. With everything ready, we were led into the first maze—excited, slightly nervous and ready to play.
The arena at Laser Game Evolution Sainte-Foy is designed with serious attention to fun. Three multi-level mazes, glowing barriers, low lighting, fog effects and ramps added depth and variety. Our first round was straightforward team battle—Team Red vs Team Blue (with our kids on one team, partners on another). Within seconds we were darting through corridors, peering around obstacles, calling “I’m tagging from the left!” and laughing when one of us mis-stepped. My younger child squealed when his phaser flashed “tagged!”, our teenager sprinted up a ramp to get a vantage point, and my partner and I found ourselves strategising like old-school gamers—funny and unexpected.
For the second round we picked a “Capture the Base” mission. The tone shifted a little—it wasn’t just running and tagging now, but coordination and timing. We helped our kids flank the opposing base, cheered each other on, and high-fived when our team won. The sense of shared victory felt sweet. The variety in terrain—dark corners, elevated platforms, open lanes—kept everyone engaged. There was no downtime where someone felt left out.
After the two rounds we spent the break lounging in our reserved table area. The kids swapped stories about their best moves; my partner and I smiled at each other using new inside-jokes like “remember that ramp jump!”. We grabbed pizza-style snacks and soft drinks, watched other families play, and felt grateful we chose a mid-afternoon outing instead of another screen-time session. Watching our kids confidently navigate the arena, hearing their laughter, and sharing our own stories—that was the highlight.
When the lights came back on and we pulled off our vests, we walked out into the crisp evening air with flushed cheeks, light soreness in the legs from sprinting, and a grin that wouldn’t quit. It wasn’t just about the score or the wins—it was about being together, competing, cheering, and just having fun as a family. The car ride home was full of chatter: “Next time we bring cousins,” “Let’s try the midnight session,” “I’m gonna beat you next time!” These are the moments that stick.
If you’re looking for a family outing that combines motion, strategy, laughter and shared excitement—Laser Game Evolution Sainte-Foy is an excellent choice. Rating: 5/5 — immersive, fun-filled and perfect for making family memories.
