Ares Battlefield

A Family-Run Paintball Field on San Antonio’s South Side

Ares Battlefield is located in south San Antonio, southeast of the Toyota plant and not far from Loop 1604. The family-owned field opened in 2011 and describes itself as San Antonio’s largest woodsball provider. It serves players who would otherwise have to travel a long way for a field, and it welcomes everyone from first-timers to organized teams.

37 Acres of Woodsball and Speedball

The property covers 37 acres. Woodsball fields use both natural and cleared terrain, so players can use trees, brush, and open ground for cover. A tire speedball field adds a faster format built from stacked tires. The owners say they keep expanding and modifying the fields to match what players want. Photos on the park’s pages show both the wooded areas and the speedball field, and visitors describe the park as a natural-feeling alternative to inflatable fields.

Markers for Every Type of Player

Ares welcomes 50-caliber, 68-caliber, and first strike markers, and it is magfed and FSR friendly. Low-impact play is available for groups that prefer a gentler game. The staff offers HPA air fills, even for players who are not using the field, and can provide safety and maintenance training for equipment. Outside paintballs are allowed if they pass inspection by the head referee, with a small inspection fee. Players who need gear can order equipment and paint through the park’s dealer accounts.

Fun for Younger Players and Families

The park is family oriented. Children aged 7 to 9 may play paintball in private family groups, and for younger guests who find paintball too intense, the park offers Nerf guns and Nerf dart tag. Seasonal events add to the atmosphere. Past events have included a Christmas theme with Santa photos, a bouncy house, a themed shooting gallery, mini Gotcha games, and raffles. Single players who need a group can ask to be put on a call list and matched with other singles or incoming groups.

Group Bookings, a Picnic Area, and a Grill

Groups of more than six players need a reservation with a deposit, and reservations are required about two days ahead of play. Private groups can also book off-hours sessions on Saturday and Sunday. A picnic area and a grill are available for rent, and restrooms and food and drinks are on site. The relaxed setting suits birthday parties, bachelor parties, and team-building outings where the group wants to cook, rest, and play.
