Black Tiger Airsoft is located in the southern part of Plant City, Florida, just off Colson Road near James L. Redman Parkway — a short drive from downtown Tampa. The club sits on a sprawling 18-acre property that blends natural Florida jungle terrain with a purpose-built urban combat zone. It is the only large-scale outdoor airsoft field within a 70-mile radius of Tampa, drawing players from as far away as Orlando and Jacksonville who are looking for a truly immersive outdoor experience.

Game Modes That Keep You Coming Back

The club runs a rotating schedule of classic and creative game modes every Saturday and Sunday. Regular game days feature team deathmatch, capture the flag, and bomb defusal scenarios that keep the action fresh and fast-paced. On designated Sundays, the field hosts MILSIM (military simulation) days with more structured rules, medic mechanics, and weapon class restrictions that appeal to serious tactical players. Special events like Day/Night games with raffles and Buy/Sell/Trade days are also held throughout the year, giving the community a chance to swap gear and play under the lights.

An Arena That Blends Jungle and Urban Combat

The playing field at Black Tiger is anything but ordinary. One half of the property is thick Florida jungle with natural cover, elevation changes, and dense foliage that rewards stealth and patience. The other half is a custom-built "city" made from shipping containers featuring 26 windowed structures, a downed helicopter prop, and dozens of obstacles like sandbags, concrete blocks, and military-style vehicles. The city has its own set of rules — semi-automatic fire only inside the perimeter — which creates a tense, close-quarters dynamic that contrasts beautifully with the open jungle. Referees are stationed on the field at all times to ensure safety and fair play.

Scenarios That Feel Like the Real Thing

Beyond the standard game modes, Black Tiger runs complex scenario-based games that simulate real-world tactical situations. During MILSIM days, players use medic bands and tourniquets, follow respawn protocols, and operate under strict weapon class rules (SMG, Rifleman, DMR, LMG, and Sniper). The field has also been used by both Hillsborough County and Polk County Sheriff's Deputies for force-on-force training, which speaks to the quality and realism of the layout. Regular game days keep things light and accessible, but the field can easily accommodate serious milsim operations when the community wants them.

More Than Just a Battlefield

Black Tiger offers a full concessions stand with hot lunches available for $5 per person, plus drinks and Gatorade. There is also an on-site trailer stocked with airsoft accessories, gear, and a tech who can work on your guns between matches. Players are welcome to bring their own folding tables and canopies to set up a base camp near the field. Parents and spectators can enter the field to take photos and videos as long as they sign a waiver and wear a bright orange vest and full face mask. The club also hosts Buy/Sell/Trade days where players can offload used gear and find deals on second-hand equipment.

The owner, Danny McKnight, is an Air Force veteran who started playing airsoft at age 11 and worked as a referee at Black Tiger when he was 15. After his military service, he returned to the field as a weekend hobbyist and eventually bought the business four years ago. He moved the operation to its current Plant City location in December 2023. McKnight and his staff emphasize a family-friendly atmosphere and respectful treatment of every player. As McKnight told the Plant City Observer, "I think that is the one thing that sets us apart from other fields — the way we treat people — the ambiance."

A Place to Relax Between Matches

The field has ample parking and space for players to set up their own canopies, chairs, and tables. The concessions trailer provides hot food and cold drinks throughout the day, so there is no need to leave the property for lunch. Spectators are welcome and can watch the action from designated safe zones. While there is no formal indoor banquet hall, the outdoor setup is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room for groups to gather, eat, and socialize between games.
