Weekends are open-play days, when walk-ons and small groups are folded into ongoing games with whoever else shows up, while weekdays are generally reserved for private bookings — companies, birthday groups and teams that want the fields to themselves. The park runs year-round, and the regulars will tell you that a cold, clear winter morning on an empty field is a completely different experience from a packed summer Saturday. It sits under an hour from New York City, which is why the parking lot fills with cars from Brooklyn, Staten Island and northern New Jersey as often as from the surrounding towns.

Seven Fields, Seven Moods

The property is divided into roughly seven separate playing fields, each with its own theme and character. Some are cut into the woods, where natural cover, tree lines and uneven ground reward patience and flanking; others are open, bunkered layouts where games are fast, loud and over in a few minutes. In between sit built-up fields with barricades, crates, walls and standing structures that create tight corners and forced crossings. Players who have been to only one field tend to describe the place by that field alone, which says something about how different the layouts feel. The fields are regularly maintained and reworked, so returning players usually find at least one configuration has changed since their last visit.

Referees run a rotation of formats rather than a single game repeated all day. Straight elimination is the baseline, capture the flag is the crowd favorite, and a range of objective-based scenarios fills out the rest — attack and defend, center flag pushes, and variations shaped around the size and experience of the group on the field. Beginners are eased in with simpler rules and shorter rounds; experienced players and organized teams get the longer, more tactical games. The park also hosts tournaments and team practice, which means a walk-on player can end up sharing the property with squads treating the day as training. Mixing skill levels is handled by the staff on the fly, and unbalanced teams get shuffled between rounds rather than left to grind through a one-sided match.

Gear, Paint and a Well-Stocked Pro Shop

Rentals cover everything a first-timer needs: mask, marker, hopper and air, with the option to move up from a semi-automatic to an electronic marker for faster shooting. Add-ons include coveralls, chest protectors, tactical vests, thermal goggles and motorized hoppers, which matters more than it sounds — a set of coveralls is the difference between going home clean and going home in ruined jeans. Low-impact equipment is available and required for the youngest players, so an eight-year-old’s first game does not have to hurt. Players who own their gear are welcome and get air refills for the day, and there is a full pro shop on site stocked with markers, parts, paint and accessories, with staff who price-match online stores and who will actually look at a misbehaving marker instead of just selling a new one. Only field paint is used on the property, a standard rule at serious fields that keeps equipment and safety consistent.

Birthdays, Bachelor Parties and Team Days

Private group events are the backbone of the schedule. Kids’ birthday parties start around age eight with low-impact gear, with food packages built around pizza and cake and a party area set aside for the group. On the adult side, bachelor parties, milestone birthdays and corporate outings all book the fields regularly, along with day camps, school groups, church groups and fundraising outings. Team-building days work here for the same reason paintball works anywhere: nothing exposes how a group communicates faster than a capture-the-flag round where nobody is talking. Group bookings can be arranged on weekdays for exclusive use, which gives larger companies the run of the property without open-play traffic.

The Crew and the Space Between Rounds

Staff are the part visitors mention most often in their reviews, usually by name. The crew handles gear fitting, safety briefings and marker setup, keeps barrel covers and mask rules strictly enforced, and referees stay with groups through the games rather than starting a round and walking away. First-timers get walked through the rules until they actually understand them, and the same people will happily help a walk-on find a game that has room. Between rounds, the staging area has picnic tables and shade where groups eat, refill air, reload pods and argue about the last round, plus restrooms, changing space, snacks and drinks, and plenty of parking. Most visitors show up in old clothes and closed shoes they do not mind ruining, which is generally the right instinct.
