A Purpose-Built Field in Western Pennsylvania
The Mercer Airsoft Center sits on 24 acres of open countryside in Mercer, Pennsylvania, in the northwestern corner of the state not far from the Hermitage and Sharon area. It is an outdoor, purpose-built airsoft arena and pro-shop, created by airsoft players for airsoft players, and it has been part of the regional scene since it first opened its doors in 2010. The property blends natural terrain with constructed play areas, giving the field a genuinely varied feel. Because it is outdoors and open year-round, every season brings a different experience, from leafy summer skirmishes to crisp fall and winter games. The center is run by staff who are airsoft players themselves, which shows in the way the field is laid out and maintained.
Weekly Open Skirmish and Tactical Play
The heart of the schedule is Open Skirmish, a public event open to anyone regardless of skill or experience. Players are split into two teams, blue and yellow, and sent onto the field to face off across a rotating set of game modes. Rounds typically run about 40 minutes with 20-minute breaks, and the day is packed with as many gameplay periods as possible. Every session begins with a mandatory safety briefing and individual game briefings, and late arrivals must be properly briefed before joining. It is a welcoming setup for first-timers, while still offering enough structure and pace to keep seasoned players engaged. The field also hosts MILSIM events and other special scenarios throughout the year, giving players a chance to step into more immersive, objective-driven games.
The Arena: Woods, Fields, and Constructed Villages
The playing area is a mix of woods, open fields, and constructed villages, with both natural and artificial obstacles scattered throughout. This variety means no two engagements play the same way — you might be working through dense cover one round and holding a sightline across an open field the next. The constructed village areas add a close-quarters element that contrasts nicely with the longer-range woodland sections. The field is designed to support a standard outdoor airsoft loadout, and players should come prepared for whatever weather the day brings, since games run rain or shine. A staging area with electricity is available, along with a concession stand, and water is free to all players at all times. It is a functional, player-friendly space built around getting people onto the field quickly and comfortably.
Private Groups and Celebrations
The center is a popular spot for birthdays, bachelor parties, business outings, and general group gatherings. Private group slots are available on select Saturday evenings, and marshals (referees) are provided by the center for every private event. A minimum of ten participants is required, with no hard maximum, though rental equipment is limited and typically tops out around twenty units. Groups are welcome to bring their own food and drink, and the staff simply ask that everyone helps keep the facility clean. Admission for private group participants is affordable, and rental replicas and eye protection can be added on. The marshal fee is the only charge due at the time of scheduling, with the rest paid on the day of the event. It is a straightforward, low-stress way to organize a group outing.
Rentals, Pro-Shop, and Player-First Staff
For players who do not own gear, the center offers rental replicas, fully sealed paintball-style eye protection, and batteries, with ammunition available for purchase in the shop. Rental equipment for public events is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early is the best way to secure what you need. The onsite pro-shop carries airsoft essentials, from BBs to new airsoft guns. The staff are experienced players who actively enforce the field and safety rules to keep games fun, fair, and safe. A liability waiver is required once per calendar year, and the ruleset is covered during the safety briefing. Whether you are brand new to airsoft or a veteran looking for a well-run field, the Mercer Airsoft Center offers a genuine, community-driven place to play.
