About

United Skates of America sits in Rumford, the northern neighborhood of East Providence, Rhode Island, just off New Road near the Seekonk border. The venue with a full schedule of public skate sessions, themed events, and parties running through 2026.

Roller Skating at Its Finest

The rink is the heart of the place — over 30,000 square feet of smooth wooden floor lined with plenty of seating, lit by state-of-the-art lighting and powered by a sound system with live DJs. Classic roller skates and rollerblades are available to rent, and wrist guards can be added for extra protection. Sessions run in timed blocks, so guests arrive at the start of a session and skate until it ends, with a full schedule of open skates, glow skates, and adult skate nights. For beginners, the rink offers adjustable skates that let little ones progress from walking to freewheeling in three stages, plus Skate Mates that help children balance and learn to skate independently. Professional, experienced instructors offer drop-in skate lessons for children and adults, and a four-week Skate Camp runs during school breaks. Adults are welcome to walk on the floor with young skaters, wearing tennis shoes on the wood.

Laser Storm & Beyond

Beyond the rink, the Laser Storm Arena offers easy-to-use, state-of-the-art laser tag equipment that works for all ages and skill levels. It’s a compact but lively arena that guests describe as fun and approachable, making it a favorite add-on for parties and group outings. The equipment is simple enough for first-timers while still offering a satisfying zip-and-zap experience for regulars. The venue also houses Mercury Mountain, the only 25-foot climbing tower in Rhode Island, with an auto-belay system so climbers can go up and glide down hands-free across five climbing stations. A large arcade mixes win-on-the-spot prize games with classic ticket games, and the Stuff Shop lets visitors trade their tickets for prizes and glow-in-the-dark gear.

Parties, Groups & Themed Celebrations

United Skates is one of the area’s premier birthday party destinations, hosting over a hundred private parties each year for schools, churches, businesses, and groups of all sizes. Kid birthday packages include admission, skate rental, a dedicated party host, reserved seating, paper goods, printable invitations, and a spin on the prize wheel for the birthday child. Popular themed parties include KPop Demon Hunter, Mario, Stitch, and Wicked, and an Adventure Party add-on brings costumed characters for meet-and-greets, exclusive gifts, and souvenir photos. The venue also runs school and group packages, STEM field trips, fundraisers, and corporate events, and hosts over 20,000 kids through summer and winter camp and recreation programs with organizations like the YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs. Adult Skate Nights and Saturday Glow Skates keep the calendar lively for grown-ups and families alike.

The Cosmic Cafe & Creature Comforts

Between sessions, the in-house Cosmic Cafe serves pizza, soft drinks, soft pretzels, nachos, cotton candy, and more. Locker rentals are available near the locker banks, and bag checks are standard at every session. The rink is fully air-conditioned, making it a comfortable escape on hot summer days. Guests are asked to sign an online waiver before entering, and outside food and drink are not permitted — though birthday parties may bring cakes and desserts. The venue is family-oriented and welcoming, with a supportive, slower-paced atmosphere that reviewers consistently describe as clean, friendly, and safe.

Who It’s Made For

United Skates is built for birthdays, family outings, school field trips, fundraisers, and corporate team events. It’s a go-to for date nights and adult skate nights, and a nostalgic spot for grown-ups who want to relive the glow-skate era. With skating, laser tag, a climbing tower, arcade, and cafe all under one roof, it suits everything from a child’s first birthday party to a company gathering. The staff are experienced and attentive, from the party hosts who guide each celebration to the instructors who teach skating and the attendants who keep the floor safe. It’s a place where first-time skaters and regulars alike feel at home.
