Players participating in open play will be divided into two groups, with efforts made to ensure a fair balance of skill levels on each side. Consequently, players may find themselves competing against or alongside friends. All markers (guns) are required to operate at 280 f.p.s. or less and 12 bps. They recommend booking a date and time in advance. Visitors can stay for a few hours or the entire day. A deposit is required, and the balance is due upon arrival to secure a reservation. Private play options are available (subject to terms and conditions), as detailed on the registration page. The minimum age requirement is 10 years old to play.
City of Nottingham (Field 1) is the centerpiece of Sherwood Paintball Inc. Spanning 5 acres, the field features over 40 structures constructed entirely from railroad ties. The focal point is the castle, built with over 3000 ties. The castle measures 64ft x 78ft and includes twelve two-story towers and one three-story tower, as well as six stairways to the second level and one to the third.
Dreckmore (Field 2), formerly Bunkerhill, covers 4 acres and is a favorite among players. The field features a 'U'-shaped valley with a peninsula in the center, where Dreckmoore keep resides. The keep measures 56ft x 28ft and will soon be a two-story structure. During 24-hour scenario games, it serves as one of the command houses.
Dread Valley (Field 3) is one of Sherwood's former tournament fields, spanning about 3 acres. The field consists of natural terrain and large log bunkers, with a valley at its center.
Black Tower (Field 4) is located within Sherwood's central area and formerly served as the tournament staging area in the 1990s. Since then, a two-story octagon tower has been constructed in the middle, surrounded by large log bunkers, transforming it into a large speedball field with the tower as its focal point.
Fields 5, 6, and 7 are Sherwood's former tournament fields. During the 1990s, they were recognized as some of the top-tier woods tournament fields in the nation. Each field covers approximately 2 acres and includes large log bunkers scattered throughout, ensuring balanced play from either end.
Black Oak Keep (Field 8) is situated on Sherwood's southeast side and occupies about 3 acres. The main structure on this field is Black Oak Keep, a two-story building used as the second command base during the scenarios.
Plans are in progress to construct a village around this base.
Battledale (Field 9) is located in Sherwood's northeast corner and plays on the side of a 60-foot hill, leading to battles involving elevation changes. Currently, there are three structures on this field, with plans to add two villages at the top of the hill and one at the bottom.
Speedball (Field 10) is built entirely from railroad ties and features over 30 bunkers, offering a unique, fast-paced game.
