Breaking the Routine: Our Company Tactical Day at Matrix Tactical Airsoft

Last Saturday, our regional sales team decided to trade spreadsheets for strategy and cubicles for cover. We headed to Matrix Tactical Airsoft & Paintball Field for a team-building day and found ourselves immersed in something far beyond a simple outing—it was a full-on tactical adventure with flanks, laughter, and unexpected leadership moments.

Pulling into the lush, shaded terrain of Matrix Tactical just outside Miami, we were greeted by trees, wood-chip paths, and glimpses of bunkers and towers through foliage. The staging area was ready: long picnic tables under canopy, gear lining the walls, staff checking our waivers and gearing us up. The terrain at Matrix Tactical is expansive and varied—dense foliage, old vehicles repurposed as cover, sniper towers rising above tree lines, trenches and platforms staged to look like real tactical zones. We advanced cautiously, whispering codes into headsets, darting between cover, suppressing fire, and turning corners with hearts racing.

In the early minutes, we were raw: teammates out of position, orders shouted, flanks miscommunicated. But then the magic of the field kicked in. One coworker who is normally quiet became the squad’s stealth expert, using tree cover to flank the enemy and secure the beacon. I found myself calling suppressive fire to allow another to advance—the adrenaline of “real play” hit deep.

Our second scenario was “Escort the VIP”—Team Orange had to guard a slow-moving convoy while Team Blue harried them from every angle. The varied terrain challenged us: shaky footing in pine needles, sharp turns, hidden vantage spots. We learned each other’s instincts, laughed at missteps (“you left the flank wide open!”) and high-fived when we pulled off coordinated moves.

Between rounds we regrouped under shade, swapped high-lights, reloaded BB bags, and watched the opposing squad’s play. The setting perfectly balanced intensity and rest: surrounding nature, open-air seating, and team bonding outside the usual office environment. We talked about our roles, joked about who “covered like my inbox” and discussed how the same dynamics apply back at work—leadership, communication, adaptability.

When the final whistle blew, we were sweaty, covered in fine dust, buzzing with adrenaline—and laughing together. My shirt was damp, my voice raspy from calls, my jaw sore from grins. But more importantly, we felt transformed: no longer just a collection of coworkers, but a team who charged, covered, and triumphed together.

Driving back, the conversation kept circling tactical moves, surprise plays, and future rematches.
