Gelly Ball originated in San Antonio in 2020, and it has grown exponentially since then. The game is played outdoors and is popular among all ages, making it a great family activity.
Gelly Ball is an innovative game that encourages players to hone their stealthy movements and resourcefulness. Players do not use paintballs, but instead use specially designed clear biodegradable ‘gelballs’. The gelballs come in different sizes, weights and colors, allowing for a range of options for game-play. Additionally, since no paint is used, the risk of mess is greatly reduced.
The game is played with two teams of two to six players per team. The objective of the game is to capture your opponent’s flag without getting hit by the gelballs. Players are armed with clear plastic guns that shoot gelballs designed to burst on impact. The guns vary in rate of fire and capacity, depending on price and model.
In addition to the traditional game of Gelly Ball, San Antonio has many local competitions and events. Players are invited to compete in team and free-for-all events, adding an element of tournament play to the game. Specialty fields are also available.
