Who Play Airsoft
To answer that question, we will first remind you that airsoft originated in Japan, as a training program for the army. It just so happened that after World War II, Japan was neither allowed to have an actual army nor use real firearms. Soon after, they came up with a training program that uses pneumatic guns, now known as “Airsoft”.
If you play airsoft in Houston – you have to play it rough. You can’t just shirk your responsibilities and hope that someone else will finish your task for you. As soon as you enter the battlefield – prepare to give it your all. It’s you or them at this point. Due to the “brutal” nature of the game, the age requirement for entering tournaments is 18 years old. But if your kids crave to get a taste of the battle a little earlier than that, then there are some tournaments that will allow 16-year-olds, but only with parental agreement.
Airsoft battlefields
A tournament in airsoft necessitates a large amount of space. Even with the game set indoors, it is most likely going to be gigantic. So gigantic, that you could fit a couple of tanks in there and start making donuts if you wanted to.
Although there are both indoor and outdoor arenas, mixed airsoft fields are much more common. The battlefields are so vast that you will find different types of terrain, lots of opportunities for tactical maneuvers and flanking people, a variety of worn off buildings, makeshift fortifications, bunkers, trenches, and much, much more. Although you can have all of that in a single game, you may also find yourself in a regular forest scouting for enemy contact ahead.
Gun Talk
Airsoft guns deserve their own topic. These pneumatics, which are indistinguishable from real firearms, are allowed to have muzzle energy of up to 3 joules, but in order to prevent serious injuries, it is usually tuned down to 1,7 joules. With that being said, the initial speed of the projectile cannot surpass 200 m/s outdoors, and 120 m/s indoors. Even though the players themselves wouldn’t mind cranking it up a little.
Airsoft guns shoot 6–8 mm plastic rounds, but if you heard that they use metal rounds instead – you were not lied to. If you and other participants want to have a more extreme challenge, you can agree on using metal rounds instead of plastic ones. Taking off the facemask would be highly prohibited in this case.
Prices
Airsoft prices vary from tournament to tournament in Houston. It is determined by the type of game (indoor or outdoor), the club, and the extra features. If airsoft is just having a little bit of fun on the weekends, and you are not buying crazy expensive gear, then it is more than affordable. But if you are really getting into it then prepare to make a hefty investment in this sport. The only limit is your imagination. The game hosts will provide you with anything you can think of: from custom themed arenas to tanks and helicopters.
