Archery tag is a relatively new sport that is quickly becoming popular in Colorado Springs, CO. The sport combines the skills, strategy, and competition of paintball and dodgeball with the practice and precision of archery. Two teams, each composed of up to six players, face off against each other with bows and arrows loaded with foam-tipped arrows. The object of the game is to hit your opponents with the arrows and eventually eliminate them one by one from the game.
What makes archery tag so popular is that it can be played almost anywhere. It doesn’t take a lot of space and can be played indoors or outdoors, in a soccer or football field. And it’s also a great way to get exercise while having a lot of fun.
In Colorado Springs, archery tag is usually played at an outdoor facility behind the Olympic Training Center which has several targets in a large field. Players can play with 12 foam arrows provided by the facility. After that, each player must purchase their own bow and arrows. Most of the archery tag teams in Colorado Springs also play in tournaments at various locations throughout the state.
Before each game, rules are laid out for players to ensure a safe game. Some popular rules include no physical contact between players and a ban on shooting arrows below the waist. Players also have to wear protective masks and always have an arrow nocked so that they can quickly shoot if needed.
The game is constantly evolving as teams become more familiar with the skills. Eventually, players will be able to use other shot types such as bank shots and lob shots. There’s lots of room for creativity as teams adjust their strategy to use these shots.
